For more than a decade, Sommar has been one of the go-to spots for a memorable sunset by the River Scheldt. Its spacious covered terrace, stylishly decorated and seating around 250 guests, creates the perfect setting to relax and enjoy the evening. Every Friday and Saturday, resident DJs provide the soundtrack, adding to the lively atmosphere. “Sommar is all about bringing that holiday feeling into the heart of the city,” say co-owners Jan Van Leuffel and Jim Cantens. “People often arrive for a sunny pre-dinner drink, but once the sun sets, the atmosphere becomes almost cinematic – and that’s when most guests decide to stay a little longer.” On the menu: Chef Kenneth Weltens has expanded this year’s selection with new sharing bites, including mozzarella sticks, prawns with chimichurri, and the signature Galician Burger, served with homemade pickles and a secret sauce. The food is best described as refined comfort food: familiar favourites prepared with extra care and attention to detail.
