Terschelling, Netherlands, Friesland beach with view at the sea

Terschelling

Sand beach

Terschelling offers over 30 kilometres of broad white sandy beaches that never feel overcrowded, backed by magnificent dunes, heathland and woodland. The most unusual beach is the Groene Strand, a 'green beach' that formed when a sandbank merged with the island and is now beloved by walkers and kitesurfers. West-Terschelling has a lively harbour centre with shops, restaurants and the iconic 1594 Brandaris lighthouse — the oldest in the Netherlands. The annual Oerol festival transforms the entire island into a stage for theatre and art each June. Terschelling is large enough to absorb its visitors, with separate quiet areas for families and a younger crowd alike.
